Congress of the School of Philosophy February, 22-23, 2010 School of Philosophy The Programs The School of Philosophy offers all three academic degrees: Bachelor (First Cycle), Licentiate (Second Cycle) and Doctorate (Third Cycle). First Cycle (Bachelor) This two year program gives its students a complete philosophical foundation and a solid preparation for Theological studies. The first cycle is centered on metaphysics, in conjunction with the philosophy of man and ethics. This is foundation the entire curriculum. Particular attention is paid to the proper understanding of the harmony that exists between the philosophical use of reason and the Word of God. This approach fosters a unified vision of knowledge in its bearing upon the Christian life and upon the contemporary culture. To be admitted to the program: a high school diploma that qualifies for admission to universities in the student’s home country is required. Upon successful completion of the first cycle, a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy is awarded. First Cycle Courses Second Cycle (Licentiate or Masters) The second cycle of studies is a two year program including an in-depth study of specific philosophical areas. It aims at bringing their philosophical formation to maturity, preparing students for teaching and research. An Ecclesiastical Bachelor’s degree in philosophy (or equivalent institutional studies in philosophy and theology) is required for admission into the second cycle. The School currently offers …
